Curriculum: Social Work 2020
Study OutcomesA student having passed the curriculum:
• understands the nature, mission, functions and role of social work in society; • has profound knowledge of the academic basis and theories of social work, analyses critically the problems and developments of social field, understands and explains their causes and reasons for formation, gives possible solutions to prevent and relieve them at different levels; • understands contemporary professional methods and considers the context from the perspective of values, culture and priorities; • understands the development of life cycle and coping in particular circumstances following holistic approach; • participates in professional discussions in the Estonian, Russian, and English or German languages; • has gained the communication, cooperation and counselling skills necessary for social work, and utilises them in their work exploiting contemporary ICT tools; • actively participates in community work, including volunteering, proposing innovative ideas to improve community welfare and sustainability; • is responsible for the quality and consequences of their activity, reflects their role in society guaranteeing that way their personal sustainability. AimThe overall objective of the curriculum is to provide students with opportunities to develop general and special competences of social workers that enable them to improve people’s wellbeing and cohesion, and encourage social changes and development at personal, organisational and community level; to support the acquisition of necessary competences for lifelong learning, including master studies.
