General description

Definition of logistics, logistics as a way of thinking. History of logistics, overview of its development stages. Logistics as interdisciplinary field of activity. Formation and trends of logistics. General concepts of logistics. Client service in logistics. Functions of logistics, inventory and flows in logistics. Supply, material and distribution logistics, functions and types of warehouses. Transportation system in logistics, freights and their classification, advantages and disadvantages of different transportation modes. Logistics as a means of increasing competitive advantage.

General aim

The goal of this subject is to give an overview of logistics as an interdisciplinary field of activity, its nature, basic principles and development stages. The course provides the basic knowledge of logistic thinking and understanding logistic key words.As the result of this a student is able to interconnect different logistic activities and finds connections with other strategic fields in a company.

Aim

The student
- has a systematic overview of the theoretical principles of logistics and understands the nature of logistics;
- knows the basic concepts and essential key words of logistics;
- is familiar with the current problems of logistics;
- understands the content and interrelations of the functions of logistics;
- understands that logistics is interdisciplinary;
- understands the role and significance of customer service and its levels;
- knows the problems of logistics and is able to solve them within his/her area of competences;
- - is able to work independently with speciality-related literature;
- has an overview of the competences of a logistician.

Form description

Lectures, group work, case studies, independent homework on a given topic.

Evaluation methods

Minimum positive grade - "satisfying" (2).
