General description

Indoor climate. Heat flow. Heat transfer through the building structure: thermal conductivity, homogeneous external wall
Heat transfer through the building structure: non-homogeneous external wall, ground floor, window. Building structure thermal conditions: heat capacity, temperature network analysis. Moisture transfer of building structures. Moisture transfer of building structures. Building structure moisture balance calculation. Thermal bridges and temperature factor. Airtightness and thermography. Acoustics and lighting. Energy efficiency of buildings. Building heat loss calculation. Building free heat loads and degree days. Building energy performance certificate and its calculation.

General aim

The aim of the course is to provide the students with an overview of building heat and moisture transfer processes and also of the fundamentals of energy efficiency.

Aim

After completing the course the student:
1. knows the fundamentals of building physics, requirements for indoor climate, the required standards and is able to design buildings taking into account the materials used and the properties of heat and moisture of various construction types;
2. knows the sound insulation requirements for the building structure, the requirements for natural lighting and artificial lighting for different room types and the fundamentals and methods of lighting calculation;
3. is able to calculate the energy performance indicator of a residential building using the heating degree days method,
4. knows the fundamentals of building energy performance calculation and can evaluate the energy performance certificates of different buildings.
