The notion of a digital map. Map digitization. Basics of telemetry. Aero photo. Digital photo technology. Digital cartography equipment and its handling. GIS components, types and principles of creation. GIS applications. The use of different data sources, data transformation. GIS software and databases. General aimThe objective of the course is to provide the students knowledge about the representation of the Earth on a plane, maps, about deformations that occur there and the compilation of maps.
The objective of Digital Cartography is to give an overview of digital maps. The course also provides students with the knowledge of geographic information systems, different types of GIS data, data storage, analysis and presentation. AimHaving successfully passed the course the students:
- command necessary basic knowledge about the history of cartography, a map, its properties, mathematical basis of the map, cartographic projections, map letters, cartographic generalisation, production process of a map and map quality. The student can make the difference between screen and vector maps, knows the technology of satellite pictures, s/he masters the use of digital maps.
