Subject 'Geodesy IV'Name in Estonian: Geodeesia IV
General descriptionDetermining of the working range of a levelling instrument’s compensator. The magnification and the field of view of a telescope. Planimeter. The volume of soil. Horizontal and vertical curves. 2D traverses. Coordinate transformations. Assessment of accuracy of levelling traverses.
Land surveying and map making history from antiquity until the 17th century. The development of geodetic instruments and methods since the 17th century. The science of Geodesy in 18th - 19th century. General aimThe objective of the course is to provide students with knowledge about different fields of geodesy, geodetic instruments and geodetic computations. Compile a portfolio of example calculations..
AimHaving successfully passed the course, the student:
1. Is able to determine basic parameters of a geodetic instrument (the working range of a levelling instrument’s compensator and the magnification and the field of view of a telescope); 2. Is able to carry out different calculations (soil volume, horizontal -and vertical curve parameters, coordinates of a survey point, area, traverse adjustments); 3. Is able to use a total station; 4. Knows the history of geodesy and cartography from the antiquity until nowadays. Form descriptionLectures, seminars, practical classes, group work, independent work
