General description

The determination of the parameters of geodetic instruments (the working zone of the levelling instrument compensator, telescope magnification and its field of view) is dealt with. Determination of areas with a polar and digital planimeter.

Applied geodetic computations are dealt with and the tasks of the respective content are solved: the computations of topsoil amounts. The computations of horizontal and vertical curves. The adjustment of a system of strokes with one nodal point. The transformation of coordinates. A course paper is compiled. The content are applied geodetic tasks and a report on the topic that has been given.

Classification and development of total stations. Application of standard programmes of Trimble S6, M3, S3 and Topcon GTS 225 (administration of data files, instrument orientation methods, coordination of points and staking out points).

Land survey and charting from ancient times to the 17th century. The development of geodetic instruments and methods since 17th century. Geodesy science in 18th - 19th century. Geodetic and charting works in Estonia from 17th to the beginning of the 20th century. Geodesy science from the end of 19th century to the II World War. Geodetic and charting works in Estonia during the years of the Republic of Estonia 1918 - 1940. Development of geodesy after the II World War. Geodesy and charting in Estonia after the II World War.

General aim

The objective of the course is to give the students knowledge about different fields of geodesy, geodetic instruments, computations of a detail net and applied geodesy computations (curves and topsoil amounts). The determination of areas with a planimeter.

The objective of the course is to give the students knowledge about the development of geodesy and cartography from the ancient times till today. Attention is turned to the history of Estonian geodesy and cartography.

Aim

Having passed the course the student can determine the parameters of geodetic instruments (working zone of a compensator, telescope magnification and field of view). S/he can resolve the system of strokes with one nodal point and carry out applied geodetic computations (horizontal and vertical curve; topsoil amounts). S/he can also determine areas with a planimeter.

The student knows how the main geodesic instruments have developed, knows the history of cartography and can interpret significant geodetic surveys from the ancient times till today.
