General description

The legal background and national characteristics of departure, transit and destination countrys in scope of goods haulage. The choice of freight, marking of freight, cargo label, package selection. The analysis of possibilities to use various modes of transport under considered situation (given cargo at the reviewed period). Selection of means of transport, justification for the choice. The overall planning of a transpordtation process: selection and planning routes, traffic-schedules. The economic calculations of performance (transportation operations, maintenance and repair, operating materials, labor and wage cost). Cost accounting in the transport, fixed costs, variable costs, calculation of the cost-price, the structure of costs in transpot. Formation of a freight-cost, giving a bid to the consignor. Calculation of financial indicators, comparison.

General aim

The course aims to implement prevoiusly acquired theoretical knowledge concerning transport economics within Transport Economics subjet (TLM489) in practice. Binding theoretical knowledge relevant to transport economics and economic analysis. As well as implementation of quantitative / combined research results within in-depth analysis.

Aim

After completing the course, the student:
1. It is able to plan a transport company operating program and commit the comparison of alternatives upon financial indicators. Is able to plan, organize and coordinate international transport in accordance with legislative acts and social norms.
2. Is able to implement the knowledge acquired in other subjects and to link them to the transport economcs of the company in practice.
3. Can I choose appropriate technical parameters of rolling stock upon specific situation.
4. Is able to find independently additional information necessary for carrying out economic calculations;
5. Is able to carry out calculations of economic indicators and analyze them separately from the system and within together;
6. Can select key parameters / indicators, on the basis of which is abel to decide the selection of the best option.
7. It is able to take decisions of an economic nature and justify them.

Form description

Course duration 8 weeks (stationary study); 3 academic sessions (distance learning). Web-based e-learning by 30%, during the semester include contact classes by 70% according to the teaching plan. Face-to face contact classes in form of seminars (working in teams, discussions, presentations).

Evaluation methods

Evaluation method - graded assessment. The course project should be completed as a result of teamwork of 4 members. Each team receives an individual assignment, solution and results of which have to be presented in a written report. The course project report is prepared in accordance with the TTK writing style requirements. Volume of work is limited up to a maximum of 25 p. A4 format, font size 12. In addition to the written report working file in MS Excel format shall be submitted. The final evaluation of a course takes place within the last contact class if form of oral presentation. Evaluation takes into account the content of the work, the level of formalization of data, solution and results presented on written report and oral defense.
