Standard documents related to steel structures. Main physical and mechanical properties of steel. Steel profiles. Calculation principles of steel structures. Calculation in the ultimate and serviceability limit state. Joints and connections. Basis of fire protection. Basis of corrosion protection. Planar steel structures. Spatial stability. Steel structures of buildings.

The aim of the course is to give students the basic knowledge of designing simpler steel structures and skills for the use of the respective standard documents.

The student:
1. is able to use standard documents related to steel structures;
2. knows how to evaluate the resistance of cross-sections, buckling resistance and deformation of simple steel structures based on calculations;
3. knows the most common joints and connections of and knows how to construct simple steel structures;
4. knows the methods of ensuring fire and corrosion safety for steel structures.
