Subject 'Reinforced Concrete Structures'Name in Estonian: Raudbetoonkonstruktsioonid
General descriptionUsing reinforced concrete in everyday construction practice due to the physical properties of the material and established customs. Repeating the basics of calculating structure elements and finding connections to the specifics of calculating reinforced concrete. Properties of materials used in reinforced concrete. Calculating the strength of rods when influenced by often occurring internal forces. Overview of the problems of the 2nd limit state. Designing the main parts of a building and making necessary calculations: beams, posts, ceiling slabs, foundations. Using assembled elements in construction and the principles of pre-stressed concrete.
General aimGiving the basic knowledge of the working principles of reinforced concrete structures: designing, reinforcing, installing into buildings, and binding them with neighbouring details. Explaining the structural engineer’s aspirations while designing a reinforced concrete building and the most general ways of realizing these aspirations. Giving the basic knowledge of calculating reinforced concrete structures, that would serve as a foundation for understanding the working principles of an existing design solution, also for criticizing a design if necessary, and for continuing the studies in this field.
AimFinishing of the course special features of the reinforced concrete and its components are familiar for student.
Student: - has an overview of compounding of reinforced concrete structural frames of different buildings, both cast in situ and precast; - can compound calculating schemes of the buildings; - has an overview of typical solutions of main parts of the buildings – foundations, columns, walls, ceilings, both cast in situ and precast; - understands aim of the prestressed concrete; - knows how structural elements can crush and what is necessary to do for preventing of crushing, also can do elementary strength calculations. Lectures Voluntary exercises of basic strength calculating problems as independent work; exercises will be corrected and commented by lecturer if necessary. LiteratureEVS 1992-1-1 Design of concrete structures. Part 1-1:General rules and rules for buildings
EVS 1992-3 Reinforced concrete structures. Reinforced concrete foundations. EPN 2.1.1 Reinforced concrete structures. Part 1.1 General rules and rules for buildings EPN 2/AM-1 Reinforced concrete structures. Limit states for non prestressed concrete. Handbook for structural engineer. Tallinn, 2010 or 2002.a.Vol. 2. Evaluation methodsWritten or oral exam consisting of theoretical questions and a simple calculating problem. Foremost, the student’s ability to formulate a problem and offer a well-reasoned solution to this problem using simple and clear arguments is evaluated.
It is possible to gather bonus points for the exam by doing independent work. Name of the e-learning course at Moodle environment (http://ekool.tktk.ee)Raudbetoonkonstruktsioonid - Peeter Paane
