General description

Limit state design. Materials used in masonry structures. Behaviour of masonry subjected to different loading. Deformation properties in masonry. Characteristic strength and design strength of masonry. Calculating of wall elements subjected to vertical and horizontal loads. Buildings of elastic and rigid structural scheme.

General aim

The objective of the course is to give an overview of the materials used for masonry structures, the function and design principles of structures.

Student after completing the course
- knows different materials used in masonry structures
- has an overwiew of design codes and other literature
- knows the design principles of masonry structures
- can determine loads for buildings
- can determine cross-sections of wall and column elements
