General description

The explanation of the concept of management and the development of the idea of management in society. The main viewpoints of classical management doctrine about work distribution, work organisation, responsibility and bureaucracy in organisations. The concept of motivation and its place in the management of organisations. Modern concepts of systems, the nature of feedback and technology of management. Organisations in society and the efficiency of management structures. Main concepts of personnel management, leader and his/her functions: decision-making and inspection. The place of communication and interaction in organisations. The use of management principles in construction: quality management, risk management and insurance, contract as a mechanism of management, management arrangement of a construction enterprise. Management of construction activity at a macro-level; professional competence of a construction manager and its certification. Main participants of a construction process: proprietor, contracting entity, designer, builder, administrator, maintainer, consultants/advisers. The role of the state in organising construction activity. Liabilities of the proprietor of a real estate (building) in society, transfer of these liabilities to the construction participants. Principles of organising contracting, interests of a contracting entity and pretenders and their protection. Contracting methods in construction: general contracting, designing-constructing, management contracting. Principles of price formation and their use in the management of the objectives of participants. Scheduling in construction, its use in the management of contracts. Scheduling methods - bar charts, sequence diagrams, arrow diagrams. Design and its different stages. The integral model of cost planning in protecting the interests of a proprietor. Conflicts in construction arrangement and the possibilities and methods of resolving them.

General aim

The objective of the course is to give the students an idea about management and its application in construction. The interests and roles of different participants, related to construction activity (investors, proprietors, designers, builders, users of buildings) at influencing the integral process are explained.

Aim

The student:
- understands the main notions in the field of management and the more important management theories;
- understands how the management structure of an organisation forms and
- understands the liabilities of the participants in the construction activity, described in the contract for services.

Form description

Lectures, practical classes. Independent work for drawing up a report or practical task.
