General description

An overview is given of statically determined and undetermined structures and stability of structural members. The internal forces and displacements of main structural elements such as simple and continuous beams, trusses, frames, and arch's are calculated. Computer programmes used for structural design are learned.

General aim

Basic knowledges to create models of structures and to determine internal forces and deformations. Working principles of structures subjected to different loads.

Aim

Student after completing the course
- has an overview of working principles of different types of constructions and their models
- is able to create and analyze models of bar structures
- can calculate the internal forces of simplest statically determined bar structures and stability of compressed bars
- has an overview of working principles statically undetermined bar structures
- has an overview of deformations of structures and can calculate the displacements of simplest bar structures
- has a basic knowledge about moving loads
- can use computer programs and handbooks

Form description

Classroom work is divided into equally important lectures and practical lessons. Lessons may be in the computer class. Students' independent studying comprises of homework's and independent work in the computer class.
