General description

Course gives a practical overview of cartography and geoinformatics. Teaches how to use, collect and manipulate geographical data with opensource program Qgis.

Aim

Student who has ended the course will:
- knows main basic types of geographical entities (discrete objects, continuous fields)
- knows different types of features in vector data model and knows when to use them
- knows data structures used to store georeferenced data and knows how to create them
- knows most used coordinate systems
- knows how to create map layers and do basic operations with them
- knows how to collect georeferenced data
- knows how to connect GIS-systems to general data analysis
