Subject 'Building Physics I'Name in Estonian: Ehitusfüüsika I - Sisekliima ja soojafüüsika
General descriptionBasic requirements for indoor climate, the basic requirements for building envelopes, room air parameters, thermal physics basic concepts (heat flow rate, heat flux, thermal conductivity, convection, heat radiation, thermal-conductivity, heat capacity), thermal bridges (temperature index), thermal resistance calculations of building envelope (homogeneous and inhomogeneous), temperature and humidity regime calculation of envelopes, airtightness (filtration), possibilities to check the thermaltechnical quality (thermography), interrelationship between building envelope, heating and ventilationsystems, buildingphysics problems in building renovation, structural design and calculation of a thermal physical exercises.
General aimTo give students knowledge of buildingphysical processes
to implement this knowledge in the field of building physics design (based on existing international standards). AimAfter completing the course the student:
1. knows the fundamentals of building physics, the requirements for indoor climate and field-specific standards; 2. is able to design buildings taking into account the properties of materials and the transfer of heat and moisture; 3. knows and is able to describe the main methods of heat transfer; is able to calculate building envelopes' thermal resistance, the temperature distribution and to assess the influence of thermal bridges; 4. knows terms related with energy efficiency and knows the factors influencing energy efficiency. Form descriptionLectures, independent tasks.
