Subject 'Timber and Steel Structures'Name in Estonian: Puit- ja teraskonstruktsioonid
General descriptionStandard documents related to timber structures. Main physical and mechanical properties of timber and timber-based products. Calculation principles of timber structures. Calculation in the ultimate and serviceability limit state. Joints and connections. Basis of fire protection. Basis of biological protection. Planar timber structures. Spatial stability. Timber structures of buildings.
Standard documents related to steel structures. Main physical and mechanical properties of steel. Steel profiles. Calculation principles of steel structures. Calculation in the ultimate and serviceability limit state. Joints and connections. Basis of fire protection. Basis of corrosion protection. Planar steel structures. Spatial stability. Steel structures of buildings. General aimThe aim of the course is to give students the basic knowledge of designing simpler timber- and steel structures and skills for the use of the respective standard documents.
AimThe student:
1. is able to use standard documents related to timber and steel structures; 2. knows how to evaluate the resistance of cross-sections, buckling resistance and deformation of simple timber- and steel structures based on calculations; 3. knows the most common joints and connections of and knows how to construct simple timber and steel structures; 4. knows the methods of ensuring fire and biological safety for timber and fire and corrosion safety for steel structures. Form descriptionStudies consist of lectures and independent work
