Subject 'Construction Management and Leadership'Name in Estonian: Ehituskorraldus ja juhtimine
General descriptionThe explanation of the concept of management and the development of the idea of management in society. The main viewpoints of classical management doctrine about work distribution, work organisation, responsibility and bureaucracy in organisations. The concept of motivation and its place in the management of organisations. Modern concepts of systems, the nature of feedback and technology of management. Organisations in society and the efficiency of management structures. Main concepts of personnel management, leader and his/her functions: decision-making and inspection. The place of communication and interaction in organisations. Main participants of a construction process: proprietor, contracting entity, designer, builder, administrator, maintainer, consultants/advisers. Contracting methods in construction: general contracting, designing-constructing, management contracting. Conflicts in construction arrangement and the possibilities and methods of resolving them.
General aimThe objective of the course is to give the students basic knowledge about leadership and management in construction.
AimAfter completing the course the student:
1. is able to name the main notions in the field of management; 2. is able to describe and analyse the process of negotiation; 3. is able to substantiate the need for cooperation; 4. is able to describe the principles of compiling a SWOT-analysis; 5. knows the three important parameters of construction and their dependence on each other.
