General description

Electricity generation, transmission, distribution and utilization costs. Short-and long-term marginal costs. Energy and fuel costs. Social and environmental costs of energy systems. Price of electricity in power plants and power grids. Investments in the energy system and electricity grid. Investment evaluation methods. The payback period. Pure present value method. Inner margin method. Profit Index. Open Electricity Market. Price formation in an open electricity market. Electricity tariffs. Energy company annual reports. EVA.

General aim

1) To provide knowledge of the economics of different energy systems, and skills to solve these problems.
2) To provide the skills to assess energy systems investments.

Aim

After completing the course the student will:

1) possess the knowledge and skills to assess the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization costs
2) have the knowledge and skills to evaluate various investment techniques
3) have a basic knowledge of the open electricity market
4) have knowledge of the electricity tariff systems.
