General description

Electrical circuit and its elements. Main characteristics of direct and alternative current. The symmetric three-phase voltage system. Computation of electrical circuits. Kirchhoff’s, Joule-Lenz’s, Faraday’s and Ampère’s laws, a law about electromagnetic force. Direct current generators and motors. Transformer. The basics of work of asynchronous motors, their construction and fields of usage. Newton’s laws of motions. Electric drive.

General aim

The course is designed to clarify the main concepts of electric circuits with different kind of load. Also it gives skills for computation of electric circuits. Gives knowledge for choice the electric machines and devices for electric drives, gives concepts about their construction and fields of usage. Give practise to control an induction motor.

Aim

1. Identifies physical work processes in direct current and single- and three-phase alternative current electric circuits.
2. Computes electrical schemes of direct and single- and three-phase alternative current.
3. Describes constructions, principles of work and fields of usage of electrical machines and electromagnetic devices.
4. Compiles a control scheme for an induction motor.

Form description

Independent work consists of independent tasks for laboratory and home works, reading lecture materials and professional literature. No distinctive assessment.

Evaluation methods

The final assessment forms on the basis of grade prelim.
