General description

Properties of the electric field; Electric fields in dielectrics; Electrical conductors and capacitance; Direct current, Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s laws; Magnetism; Electromagnetic induction; Semiconductors and their applications, Electrolysis and its industrial uses; Alternating current and related concepts,
Basics of molecular physics; Thermodynamics; Isothermal, isobaric and isochoric processes in gases; Ideal gas law; Kinetic theory of gases; Thermodynamic processes in gases, Carnot’s theorem

General aim

The aim of the course is to 1) explain the main laws that apply in the field of molecular physics and 2) introduce the examples of the applications in modern technology. During the practical sessions both laboratory work and problem solving is addressed, the laws are put into practice and studied experimentally.

Aim

After finishing the course, the student:
- knows the main laws of physics (within the boundaries of the course scope) and can relate the laws to the applications in modern technology
- can explain the main laws graphically, through examples of application or in some other way
- is familiar with and can operate with different physical quantities
- is capable of conducting laboratory assignments with the aid of a supervisor, calculate necessary physical quantities and finalize lab reports
- is capable of outlining and explaining the process of carrying out laboratory work and its results

Form description

Lectures, solving tasks, laboratory works, independent work
