General description

Speech-developing exercises, texts for reading, reporting and commenting, writing summaries, presentation, work with a dictionary.

Topics: Higher education. Estonia. Presentation. Development of technology. Texts on speciality.
Revision of grammar: exercises.
Independent reading: 10000 characters of speciality-related text.

General aim

Special purpose language course for the students of all curricula. The aim of the course is to develop the four components of language competence - listening, speaking, reading and writing skills - through interactive and communicative activity and expanding thestudents' professional vocabulary.
The course materials require the learners' foreign language skills on B2 level.

Aim

After completing the course students
1. are able to introduce both in oral and written form their school (TTK UAS) and the system of higher education(academic and applied) in Estonia;
2. can make up and deliver a presentation (Topics: My home town; A university abroad etc);
3. can sum up a text on speciality, including the essential information;
4. are familiar with a certain amount of professional vocabulary, can use it both orally and in writing.

Form description

Practical classes. Group work, pair work. Independent work.

Materials compiled and chosen by the lecturer.

Evaluation methods

1. Written tests
2. Oral and written (100 - 200 words) reporting of texts
3. Group work: solving problems
4. Making Power Point presentations
The grading criteria for all methods are provided by the lecturer at the beginning of the course.
