General description

Topic 1: Employment and the Hiring Process. Applying for a job, writing a CV and cover letter, the job interview; personnel issues.
Topic 2: Team Building.
Topic 3: Product Development. Presentations, presentation skills
Topic 4: Business across Cultures. Intercultural business communication, cultural differences in management styles.
Topic 5: Negotiations. The language of negotiations. Basic negotiation skills. .

General aim

The aim of this course is to help students develop elementary speaking and writing skills that can be applied in a wide range of business contexts. Students will take part in roll-plays, simulations, discussions, and pair work. They will also write a number of short reports, complete a series of short writing exercises. A wide range of business-related topics are discussed and the students will present a speciality related product/service.

Aim

The student who has passed the course...
- is familiar with job interview situations and labour market mechanisms;
- can explain the development of a speciality related product/service and present it;
- has an overview of team building and business ethics;
- has an overview of cultural differences in business communication;
- is able to conduct negotiations in a well argumented manner and with relevant vocabulary.

Form description

Classroom lessons (for group and pair activities). The course is partly web-based. Independent study is conducted online in Moodle (assigments and exercises).
