Subject 'Estonian Language and Culture'Name in Estonian: Eesti keel ja kultuur
General descriptionThe course introduces the language and culture of Estonia and engages the students in analysing the factors that contribute to cultural differences between societies in order to understand the barriers.
General aimTo acquire the general knowledge of the history and culture of Estonia, be able to understand the differences between Estonian and one’s own cultural and social factors to allow these to interact. To develop a general understanding of the basics of the Estonian language.
AimStudent:
- has a grasp of various spheres of the Estonian culture; - is able to compare Estonian culture to their own country’s based on the historical and natural differences; - can compile and use basic everyday sentences and phrases in Estonian. Form descriptionPractical classes
LiteratureTexts, work sheets, links to videos and other relevant material handed out at the lecture or sent via e-mail.
Evaluation methodsIn order to pass the course, the student needs to attend at least 75% of the lectures and make a final presentation. If practical classes are missed, the final mark will be lowered.
