General description

- Freight concepts - different modes of transport, principles of the mode choice, freight division,
transport system.
- Transport area of The EU and the Republic of Estonia - the development of guidelines for
transport, international road transport organizations;
- Physical and institutional infrastructure; routes and facilities. Estonia's transport infrastructure -
rail-, air-, road-infrastructure and its management. Via pipelines. Safety. (waterways, ports, port,
navigable inland waters. Highways, roads and typology of classes.)
- Transportation company - a structure and functions, risks, advantages and disadvantages of leasing
and owning own fleet, key-features of a transport company. The contract of carriage.
- Shipping agency - freight forwarding service, the freight forwarder's role and its responsibilities,
risks, corporate structure, the freight forwarder's liability;
- Applications for the procedures on transportation market;
- Classification of goods and their characteristics, information on goods;
- Freights and packages - loads and classification of specific goods, dangerous cargoes, packages,
general principles for packaging, pallets;
- Marking - marking supplies, informative labeling, labeling of hazardous substances;
- Requirements for fleet - a truck hangars, cargo facilities and the requirements for special permits
and certificates, requirements for accessories;
- Main economic and technical indicators of a vehicle, introduction into transport economics;
- Forces impacting freight during transportation process, processes arising during transportation
because of forces, theoretical bases for the goods fastening;
- Fastening equipment - Binder and blocking equipment and their selection;
- Fastening procedures of cargo at load area - the load placement, interconnection, blocking,
examples of procedures on various cargoes;
- Transportation and traffic safety, transport safety, large and heavy loads - the requirements,
restrictions.

General aim

The course aims to present different modes of transport. Draw attention to the nature of the cargo
and resulting transport safety, assurance and the other requirements for the main activities.

Aim

- To acquire and use correctly terminology according safety of transport and freight transport within
and linked to the other (s) in accordance with the terms of transport. Knows the logistics of the
infrastructure concepts;
- Is aware of regulatory environment in transport;
- Cognizant of Estonia and the European Union's policy guidelines on the transport and logistics
infrastructure;
- Knows practical means of transport safety requirements and their implementation;
- Is familiar with the individual modes and their substantive and technical base;
- Is familiar with the characteristics of different goods, different modes of transport technology and
is able to analyze the integrated process;
- Is familiar with the rules of the handling of dangerous goods and knows how to implement them.

Form description

Teaching will take place in lectures and seminars. 2 tests during the semester gives up to 60%, the
remaining 40% are formed of home-work submission / defense, settlement of cases in a form of
teams and company visit.
