Transportation system. Quality requirements of transportation system. Tasks of transportation logistics. Transportation resources and freight quality. Environment impacts of transportation. Quantitative and qualitative measurers of transportation. Transportation role in supply chain.

Transportation mode selection criterions. Advantages and shortages of transportation modes. Principles of transportation mode and transportation unit selection. Transportation means and loading space planning. Load planning. Principles of freight arrangement. Contracting in transportation. Freight contract. Transport operator responsibility.

Third parties in transportation. Ship operator, shipping line operator, material handling operator, customs agent, charter broker, freight forwarder. Freight forwarder’s role and tasks in transportation chain. Freight forwarder company’s offered services. Freight forwarder liabilities and responsibility. Legal environment of freight forwarding. Freight forward contract.

General aim

Give students knowledge how to identify company’s transportation needs, about transportation mode, route and transport mean selection principles, also about speciality of different transportation modes.

Aim

The student knows:
• transportation logistics nature and tasks
• the freight forwarder role, tasks and responsibility in the transportation chain
• freight documentation
• relations between freight forwarding and international commerce

The student is able:
• to identify company’s transportation needs considering the route, freight frequency, goods volume and time factor
• to select suitable transport mean/unit
• to plan tarnsport unit loading and using effectively hold
