Subject 'Theoretical Mechanics'Name in Estonian: Teoreetiline mehaanika
General descriptionTheoretical mechanics is a study of forces as a primary source and cause of equilibrium and movement of bodies. In this subject only one part of theoretical mechanics is dealt with – statics. That is equations with forces and the state of equilibrium.
General aimAn overview is given of the basic notions and axioms of mechanics. The main goal is to introduce operations with forces and systems of forces, handle the conditions of equilibrium and their application.
AimIn the end of the course the student:
1) Understands different conditions of equilibrium and knows how to draw up the equations of equilibrium 2) Is able to find support reactions and inner forces in bars and systems of bars 3) Knows how to find support reactions and inner forces of simple beams 4) Can analyse and evaluate if the result is realistic Form description16 weeks of lectures (3 hours per week) + 12 weeks of lessons for exercises (2 hours per week) + independent work (exercises)
