Subject 'Engineering Practice'Name in Estonian: Inseneripraktika
General descriptionDuring the Engineering Practice students normally have to work as the assistants of project managers, product managers, object managers, designers, operation managers, chief engineers, power engineers, purchase or sales managers.
One or more activities should be included in the following areas during the Enterprice Practice: 1) participation in the design, production and product development of electrotechnical products (switchgear, switchboards, cables, motors, luminaires and other electrotechnical equipment, systems and components), including the assistance of production managers, chief engineers, development managers, cooperation with other development personnel etc..); 2) participation in design activities of electricity, automation and low current projects, including independent preparation of drawings, explanatories, specifications and other necessary documentation in projects, such as preliminary sketches and work projects; 3) practical activities in companies with the core activity of power networks (high, medium or low voltage networks) or companies dealing with the installation of indoor electrical systems, including the preparation of sketches and quotations, budgeting, the assistance of a project or site manager etc.); 4) practical activities in companies with the core activitiy of (industrial) automation installations, including the preparation of sketches and quotations, budgeting, the assistance of a project or site manager etc.); 5) practical activities in companies dealing with the electrical operation or maintenance, including preparation of price offers, budgeting and the assistance of the operation manager during operational works; 6) practical activities in companies dealing with the trading of the electrical energy (NB! The practical activity must be related with the electrotechnical area!) 7) practical activities in companies dealing with low current area, such as building automation systems, security systems, communication systems etc.), including the preparation of sketches and quotations, budgeting, the assistance of a project or site manager etc.); 8) Customer consulting in the field of electrical or (industrial) automation products in the position of a product manager, sales engineer etc; 9) The quality control of electrotechnical materials, components and products, including the assistance of a quality or production manager. General aimThe main aim of the Engineering Practice is to get practical experience in the companies related with electrical sector and to collect the necessary information for the final thesis.
AimThe student has acquired enhanced practical experience in the chosen field of practice, has an overview of business operations and the work routine of the selected company, knows how to use the office and specialized software, is able to communicate with customers, suppliers and partners, has acquired the practical working techniques and significantly improved his/her knowledge about the electrical engineering. The graduate is well-prepared and ready to compete in the selected area of the labor market.
Form descriptionThe Engineering Practice takes place in the 6th semester and lasts 16 weeks.
Evaluation methodsSummative assessment, which is based on the characterization of a company, practice report and presentation.
