Subject 'Measurement of Electrical and Nonelectrical Values'Name in Estonian: Elektriliste ja mitteelektriliste suuruste mõõtmine
General descriptionThe basics of Metrology. Terms and definitions. The main measurement units of electrical values, measuring methods of electrical values. The classification of measuring errors and classes of the measuring accuracy. The calculation of measuring errors. The classification of measuring devices and their parameters. Electro-mechanical meters. Electron meters. Digital meters. Electro-technical calibration and verification of measuring instruments, an overview of the supervisory requirements. Measurement of electrical and non electrical values. Overview of measuring systems working with computers. Measurements of Automation Systems: temperature, pressure, flow, level, density, moisture and viscosity measurements. Proximity sensors, contact sensors.
General aimThe graduate of the course has knowledge about the most important measurement units of electrical and non-electrical values, about different electrical measuring devices and their fields of usage, meter’s parameters and classification, basic measuring principles of electrical values, symbols used in meter’s scales, the classification of measuring errors and accuracy classes, the verification and calibration requirements for electro-technical measuring instruments. The student is familiar with the constructure, operating principle, characteristics and fields of usage of automation sensors and measuring devices.
AimThe learner knows and understands:
1) the most important measurement units of electrical values; 2) different measuring instruments and their fields of usage; 3) measuring and classification parameters; 4) the basic measurement principles of electrical values; 5) symbols used on scales of the instruments; 6) the classification of measuring errors and accuracy classes; 7) verification and calibration requirements for measuring instruments; 8) the construction, operating principles, characteristics and fields of usage of sensors and measuring devices used in automation. The learner is able to: 1) choose a suitable measuring instrument; 2) follow the safety standards; 3) measure electrical values such as current, voltage, power, energy; 4) determine measurement values; 5) objectively evaluate the results of measurements; 6) convert electrical measuring units; 7) use appropriate literature; 8) select right sensors and measuring instruments guided by technical processes; 9) prepare mearuring schemes; 10) manage the measurement of the parameters and objectively assess the results of the measurements; 11) follow safety requirements during measurements. Evaluation methodsThe course ends with an examination. Positively executed tests and practical works are the prerequisites of the exam. The examinee must answer written questions within the framework of lecture material. The final grade will turn out from the average grades of tests, practical works and exam.
