TTK University of Applied Sciences
Subject 'Strength of Materials'Name in Estonian: Tugevusõpetus
General descriptionAn overview is given about the approach to materials in modern engineering science and evaluation of the state of material at loading it with external forces. The following concepts are explained: external force, internal force, mechanical tension, deformation, arrangement. More precisely the tasks of a bar are examined. The main connections to the strength and rigidity calculations of bars are derived in the case of simple as well as combined loading.
General aimStrength of materials is a main prerequisite subject for a student in order to pass the programme of construction structures. In an applied higher educational establishment the theoretical part of the strength of materials is learned only to the extent, necessary for substantial understanding of application issues of the calculation of structures.
AimThe student who has passed the course of the strength of materials: is able to understand the standard documents of construction structures design; knows how to use manuals and find from them information; is able to use it; is able to evaluate the usage limits of the found information.
Form descriptionClassroom work is divided into lectures and practical classes. Home tasks are solved independently in accordance with each part that has been passed. Two tests are written during the term.
