General description

The importance of logistics in managing the business processes of the company. Logistical strategy - the methods, critical factors. The main functions of logistics. Inboundlogistics, operations management, outbound logistics. Purchasing. Distribution.
Logistical costs and total cost, cost-effective management, cost trade off. 3PL, 4PL. Company´s management concepts. Information technology in logistics. The importance of Reverse logistics nowdays.

General aim

To present an overview and introduction to basics of logistics. To provide insights of logistics' way of thinking and develop logistics strategy, understanding the usage of key words, concerning logistics areas. Also to give skills to develop a logistical strategy in the enterprise. How to control and plan the logistical processes' functions, that helps to provide the effectiveness of the company.

Aim

Student:
* Knows the fundamental theory of logistics.
* Knows the entire approach of different logistics areas.
* Knows how to use different methods and models for supply chain management.
* Understands the logistical processes' in the company
* Knows distributional-, purchase-, transport-, info-, warehouse- main functions;
* Is able to set the boundaries of the input, output- and enterprise logistics
* knows how to reduce enterprise's logistical costs
* Has an overview of the new trends in logistics
* Is able to work independently through a complex of professional academic literature
* Is able to work in a team

Form description

Exercises: Different exercises concerning logistics. "Kepner Tregoe" game, Discussions , Value gain opportunities in the company using logistics.
Presentations.
Visiting the logistics companies: It is not an obligatory but recommendable.
Project: Find a solution to a real problem in the company in groups.
Solution of exercises, presentations, company's visits are part of the exam mark.
2 current tests on 8 and 16 learning week, it gives 60 % of the exam mark. The rest 40 % consists of exercizes, presentations and logistics companyŽs visitings, project, teamworks and all these are presumptions to the exam mark.
