Subject 'Heat Treatment Technology and Equipment'Name in Estonian: Metallide termotöötlus ja seadmed
General descriptionClassification of heat-treatment (HT) processes: annealing, hardening, tempering, termochemical treatment. Phase diagrams showing the possibilities of heat treatment. Phase transformations occurring at heat treatment of steel: formation of austenite on heating and pearlite on cooling, formation of martensite during quenching operation and its transformation into other structures on reheating. HT processes and technology. Specific HT properties of alloy steels. Kinds of structural and tool steels, modes of their heat treatment and properties obtained. Further problems of HT technology: types heat-treatment furnaces, temperature control and protective atmosphere. Hardening defects.
General aimTo introduce main types of heat treatment techniques of metals. To provide knowledge of structure, composition and properties of metals, and the effect of heat treatment to the properties.
AimKnows the main methods of heat-treatment and their outcome. Knows how to prescribe HT regime of the main composition metals according to required qualities. Knows the the mainly used HT equipment.
