An overview of Estonian legal system. Nature and essence of land ownership. Real estate and registered immovable property. Nature and essence of property law. Unlimited power and limited power over property. Limited property rights: servitude, usufruct, individual right of use, right of superficies (building lease). Structure of plans. Legal basis for planning. General plans. Detailed plans. The impact of planning on the environment. Land readjustment. Land cadastre. Usage conditions for land intended for different purposes. Construction. Land reform and formation of land ownership in once again independent Estonia.
An overview of the most important areas in environmental protection.
History of environmental law, different legal acts.

The objective of the course is to introduce the field of land law of Estonian legal system; to examine land – real estate in particular – and legal problems connected with its use and also to provide an overview of the Estonian environmental protection system, sources of Estonian and European Union environmental law and to introduce the main principles of environmental law as well as the main regulative tools connected with environmental law.

Student:
- knows the field of land law of Estonian legal system;
- can interpret legal text and
- knows the notions, connected with real estate;
- knows the normative documents of environmental law;
- can interpret legal text;
- is able to solve simpler cases.
