General descriptionPhilosophy, philosophy of science, science and other ways of considering the world; research questions and methods; principles of ethics in science; the interaction of science and society; philosophical argumentation of personal views
General aimThe purpose of the course is that the student would acquire primary abilities of philosophical thinking, distinguish contemporary questions of philosophy of science from other commonsensical and philosophical questions and would shape personal reasoned answers for these questions.
AimAfter passing the course the student
- distinguishes philosophy from other ways of considering the world; - distinguishes between science, philosophy of science and other branches of philosophy according to their research questions and methods; - understands the interaction of social and scientific activities of humans; - is able to recognize pseudoscientific views and distinguish them from scientific approaches; knows how to be critical of sources of information and independently assess the certainty of it; - is acquainted with and appreciates the principles of ethics in science; - is able to discuss primary philosophical texts; - shapes a personal reasoned view concerning the main questions that are discussed.
