General description

Statics. Introduction. Principle notions. Force and force system. Statics axioms. Force components and projections. Reduction of concentrated force system and equilibrium. Force moment. Couple and its properties. Reduction of a force system. Special cases of reduction. Centre of gravity of the system of particles and body. Ways of finding the centre of gravity. Area moments. Moments of inertia of simple configurations. Area moments of the composite configuration of the second stage. Moments of main inertia. Moments of inertia of a regular polygon. Field of force and its reduction. Equilibrium of a force system. Equilibrium of a body and a system of bodies. Equilibrium of a body in the occurrence of friction.
Strength of materials. Internal force of a rod. Deforming body. Classification of internal forces. Torque. Notion of tension. Tensions in a point of a rod. Deformation energy. Connection between tensions and internal forces. Volume change and shape change. Deformation energy.

General aim

The objective of the course is to provide knowledge and skills in statics (science about forces that affect structures) and strength of materials (calculation methods for achieving sufficient strength and rigidity of typical structural elements).

Aim

Having passed the course the student:
- knows the basics of statics and strength of materials and
- can calculate forces that have an impact in structures and simpler structural elements for
achieving sufficient strength and rigidity.
