General description

The nature of logistics. Supply chain, flows. Logistical problems. Logistics development. Supply chain management. Fragmentation. Outsourcing. 3PL. Demand planning and bullwhip effect. Logistics planning, lean and agile systems. Just-in-time concept. Theory of constraints. Resource planning. Logistics metrics and analyses. Purchasing. Transport decisions. Incoterms. Regulations in forwarding and transport. CMR. Inventory management. Warehousing.

General aim

Introduce logistics and basic tools used in organising and managing logistics. Develop understanding of logistics in connection with other business functions. Prepare students for working in logistics field

Aim

Student knows the key terms and concepts
Student is knowledgeable about new technologies in the field of logistics
Student is able to assess the logistical performance of a company and the effect on service and profit
Student understands the common bottlenecks in logistics and is able to offer solutions
Student can perceive the relations between business functions and make decisions based on that
Student can find relevant information in the applicable laws and regulations

Form description

The course has eight lessons, altogether 24h, and consists of both lecture-type learning and groupwork discussions and exercises. The final grade consists of students homework (20%), active work during the course (10%) and final test (70%).
