Subject 'Theoretical Mechanics'Name in Estonian: Teoreetiline mehaanika
General descriptionAn overview is given of the basic notions and axioms of mechanics. Operations with forces and force systems are dealt with. Balance conditions and their applications in finding the support reactions of main building structures are observed. Finding the internal forces of plane girder rods is learned. The course is confined with the problems related to statics; kinematics and dynamics are dealt with only to the extent that is needed for understanding dynamic loads.
General aimTheoretical mechanics is a general theoretical subject that is taught to all specialities in technical higher educational establishments. The course of theoretical mechanics provides the students with necessary pre-knowledge for studying programme specific subjects. The amount and content of the course depends on the speciality.
AimTheoretical mechanics is a prerequisite for the subjects strength of materials and construction statics.
Form descriptionClassroom work is divided into lectures and practical lessons. Homeworks are done for all topics as independent studying. There are two tests during the semester and the course assessment is a written exam.
