Subject 'Engine Fuels and Lubricants'Name in Estonian: Mootorikütused ja määrdeained
General descriptionThe concept of chemomotology and importance in modern technology and economy. The concept of crude oil (petroleum). Manufacturing of liquid fuels. The concept of engine fuels and the main raw material. The concept of "petrol" (in US "gasoline") and the variety of kinds associated. Concept of motor petrols and diesel fuels, Requirements, composition, concept, classification, numerical quality measures and methods of their determination. The worldwide accepted quality levels of engine fuels. Alternative fuels for internal-combustion engines. This subject includes a comparison of lubricants and service liquids supplied in conformity with various standards (ISO, DIN, EN, ACEA, SAE, API, ASTM, NATO, ?OCT, etc.), also considering the conditions restricting their interchangeability. Lubricants in modern technology. Selection of lubricants, the correct lubrication and itŽs output. How the properties of engine fuels, lubricants and service fluids influence running of the engine of vehicles. In laboratory works the students shall determine the main properties of industrial lubricants and service liquids and they are compared with the quality requirements in Estonia and in the World. Basic knowledge on safety requirements and environmental protection measures will be delivered.
General aimThe aim of the course is to give knowledge about the composition, the variety of, the properties and the right and economical usage of modern engine fuels, lubricants and service fluids.
AimThe student who has mastered this course is able to economically and correctly use engine fuels, lubricants and service fluids that meet the requirements of modern requirements and to consider their interaction.
