General description


This ability will be developed through a variety of exercises and activities: sentence building exercises, short response exercises, analytical and lateral thinking exercises, creative writing exercises, essay writing, role-plays, simulations, debates, discussions, reports, and presentations. Topics will include environmental, social, and ethical issues.

General aim


To improve the student's ability to express him/herself in both oral and written form in English, to enable him/her to write and deliver reports or presentations, argue, negotiate, generally converse and express or defend a point of view more effectively.

Aim


A student who has successfully passed through this course should know how to write and deliver reports and presentations in English more effectively, express and defend his/her opinions or positions more effectively, express his/herself more persuasively in a negotiation situation, and generally, know how to make better use of English in written or oral form to achieve his or her goals, whatever they might be.

Form description


The course is partly web-based. Classroom time is used for activities which are better carried out face-to-face (group work, pairwork, role-plays, presentations, short writing tasks, etc.), while other work is carried out or at least submitted online (in Moodle).
