General descriptionGeneral properties of building materials - physical, mechanical, thermal. Timber materials - properties, flaws of timber, timber building materials. Natural stone materials - properties, types of stones, usage. Building ceramics - raw material, production, products, properties of products, usage. Mineral binders - fat lime, building gypsum, Portland cement and special types of cement, production, usage, properties. Properties of concrete and their determination, special types (lightweight concretes, heavy-aggregate concretes). Reinforced concrete - essence, production of reinforced concrete parts, their main types. Mortars - types (mortars, plaster mortars, decorative plasters), composition, properties, dry mixes. Unburnt artificial stone products - production, properties and usage of calcium silicate brick. Autoclaved porous concrete, gypsum products, concrete stones. Bitumen materials - types of bitumens; roof covering materials, hydraulic insulation materials. Plastic materials - composition, processing, usage. Plastic panels and coverings, profile products, bubble plastics. Thermal insulation materials - organic, mineral (production, properties, usage). Finishing materials - paints, varnishes, wallpapers. Glass products - different types of glasses and their production.
General aimThe objective of the course is to give the students a notion about general and specific properties of building materials. The course also includes the testing methods of materials.
Form descriptionLectures 24 hours, laboratory works 8 hours, independent work 40 hours.
