General description

The structure of the carbon atom and hybridisation, isomery. Carbohydrates (unsaturated and saturated), their energetic potential and environmental hazard. More important chemical transformations. Organic oxygen compounds (alcohols, carbonyle and carboxyle compounds), their chemical properties, usage and environmental impacts. Organic nitrogen compounds (amino acids, amines). Chemical composition of organisms (more important inorganic and organic substances). Principle viewpoints of cell structure, heredity.

General aim

The objective of the course is to provide knowledge and skills of bioorganic chemistry and the most important classes of substances (hydrocarbons, organic oxygen, nitrogen and halogen compounds), their physical and chemical properties and their impact on the environment as well as physiological effects on organisms. Giving a short survey about the structure of cells, element composition of organisms, relation of genetics and biotechnology.

Aim

Student:
- knows the principle substance classes of organic hemistry;
- can give a prognosis about the solubility of substances in the water environment and the hazardousness of substances on the environment;
- can write the more important reactions (oxidation) about the transformation of organic substances;
- can calculate the substance formula on the basis of the mass of the elements that are part of its composition.
