Subject 'Architectural Design IV - Block of Flats'Name in Estonian: Arhitektuurne projekteerimine IV - Korterelamu
General descriptionA block of flats is meant to be designed on a certain site. While designing this block of flats the existing environment and building line have to be taken into account. The number of flats, their structure and sizes are free but they have to proceed from the location of the building. All the valid norms and standards for living rooms have to be considered with.
General aimThe aim is to introduce the bases and character of design. To familiarize with typology of block of flat. To develop urban-spatial, three dimensional and volumetric thinking, and evaluation of milieu qualities.
AimStudent after completing the course has obtained the skills how to design a block of flats.
Form descriptionWork is carried on in groups two by two or independently. Instruction and discussions take place in practical classes. In the course of the term project a lecture is held about typology of block of flats and the developments of 15 years. The work is divided into 3 stages: 1. Getting to know the site and environmental analysis; 2. Draft solution and specification of room program, develpoment of the idea, forming spatial concept; 3. Design solution
