Aim

The general objective of the applied higher education curriculum is the preparation of the student for work in the field of the chosen speciality. The task of the modules of general education and basic subjects of the curriculum is to develop the general educational basis and social maturity of the students. The acquisition of professional knowledge and skills takes place via theoretical subjects and practical classes, given in the curriculum, and throughcarrying out practical trainings in enterprises (working environment).
The curriculum provides the knowledge and skills in two fields: railway traffic and safety, technology and management of railway transport. It is possible to continue studies in the master´s programme.

Learning outcomes

After completing the curriculum in the full amount the student has the following competences:
- has a systematic overview of the railway infrastructure and technology, about railway traffic and its safety; - knows the work organisation in a railway enterprise and the topical problems of its management, and is able to solve them;
- is able to define and analyse the problems existing in haluage safety and environmental protection, can assess different solutions;
- can use relevant methods and means for gathering information independently, is able to interpret it critically and in a creative way;
- shows initiative while launching projects, has responsibility, management and teamwork skills necessary to implement projects;
- possesses the necessary communication skills as well as information and communication technologies;
- is able to express the problems related to railway and railway transport in Estonian language and at least in one foreign language both orally and in writing, can participate in professional discussions;
- is ready to participate actively in the civil society and is tolerant of various attitudes;
- can consider community and ethical aspects in assessing the impact of his/her professional activity in the society;
- is ready to put the gained knowledge and skills in practice, acting as manager or specialist in the field of speciality;
- is capable of self-improvement in the field of speciality and profession.
