Aim

The general objective of the applied higher education curriculum is the preparation of the student for work in the chosen speciality. The task of the modules of general education and basic subjects of the curriculum is to develop the general educational basis and social maturity of the students. The acquisition of professional knowledge and skills takes place via theoretical subjects and practical classes, given in the curriculum, and through carrying out practical trainings in enterprises (working environment).

The professional knowledge and skills of the student who has passed the Environmental Technology and Management curriculum provide a professional competency in order to work in the field of environmental engineering and waste technology, mainly as a specialist in a waste treatment plant as well as a specialist of waste treatment and environment in local governments. The diploma of applies higher education complies with the requirements of level 6 in the Estonian Qualification Framework. The levels of Estonian Qualification Framework correspond to the European Qualification Framework (EQF).

Learning outcomes

The student who has passed the curriculum in full amount has the following competencies:
- has a systematic overview about the principle notions of the speciality, waste management,
technologies, environmental protection and organisation and its management;
- knows important research methods from the point of view of the speciality and theoretical
principles of science and engineering subjects, chemistry, physics and economics;
- can use the learned foreign language for developing speciality-related competency;
- can implement the knowledge and skills, acquired in practical training, in professional work;
- can gather independently information and interpret it critically and creatively;
- participates actively in civil society;
- can assess the role and consequences of speciality-related activity on the society;
- develops continuously and independently competencies in the field of the speciality and work.
