Aim

The aim of the curriculum of higher applied education of road construction is to train road construction engineers (qualifications framework, level 6) with characteristics acceptable by the labour market. Knowledge obtained via theoretical studies is divided as follows:
1. General knowledge of the fundamentals of mathematics and natural science, graphics and technical sciences in conjunction with the field of road construction.
2. General knowledge in the basics of social sciences and humanities in order to provide the involvement of social, economic, environmental and ethical aspects in engineering operations.
3. Professional knowledge, which is connected with the basis of designing roads and structures and the maintenance technologies of these.
4. Knowledge connected with legislation, work management and operational safety.

Obtained professional knowledge and skills takes place via the completion of theoretical subjects, practical classes and trainings listed in the curriculum.
The aim of the curriculum for road construction is to train technical specialists to perform road construction and maintenance works.
Occupations: site manager, construction manager, assistant specialist. Performing work tasks is accompanied by dividing the resource and supervising other workers.

Learning outcomes

After the full completion of the curriculum, the student has obtained the following competences and skills:
- is able to participate actively and responsibly in the civil society, can work in a multidiscipline project team; bases one´s actions on the occupational ethics and behavioural codex of an engineer;
- is able to consider social, economical, environmental and ethical aspects in completing projects;
- has a grasp of the communication and leadership skills necessary for the profession; uses correct professional terminology;
- can utilize the necessary information and communication technologies relevant to the speciality;
- knows and is able to use road construction technologies, materials, can apply the principles and action plan of quality management;
- knows and can use laws regulating road maintenance and technical requirements;
- is able to plan road designs and lead the construction process;
- knows the main requirements of road maintenance;
- can estimate the cost of road construction works;
- knows the bases of enterprising;
- is able to follow and assure the requirements of operational safety;
- has mastered analytical thinking in terms of engineering;
- is able to gain additional training both individually and professionally.
