AimThe ovearll objective of the curriculum in the professional higher education is to prepare the student for the work in the position of architect (Level VI of the Qualification Framework, applied architect). The task of general educational and base subject modules is to develop the students´basic general educational and social maturity. Acquisition of specialised knowledge and skills takes place via theoretical subjects and practical training as well as traineeship in an enterprise (in working environment).
The architect who has completed the curriculum can be employed in public and private companies as a non-responsible architect and planner; in local governments as an assistant architect, planning specialist or civil construction adviser and, in case of having completed additional pedagogical or professional preparation, to work as a lecturer in the professional higher educational establishment. The graduate who has completed the curriculum of applied architecture, has intensive knowledge of technical functioning of designed buildings (energy efficiency, acoustics, natural light, internal climate). The graduate will be able to supplement his or her knowledge in master´s studies in the field of architectural design and planning or to engage in the field of research and scientific work. Learning outcomesThe student who has completed the study programme in full shall have the following competencies:
- by using acquired knowledge, is able to prepare under the guidance of a professional architect, architectural design documentation that complies with aesthetic and technical requirements; - has a systematic overview of the theoretical principles and scientific methods of the field of applied architecture, with the ability to use them in professional work; - has knowledge about fine arts as factors influencing the quality of architectural design; - is able to express an architectural idea in freehand; - has a command of computer applications required in professional work; - knows the legal acts regulating the design process; - has sufficient knowledge of sciences and construction engineering related to architecture, techniques, technologies, as well as functions of architecture that ensure the development of environmentally friendly buildings; - understands the relationship between people and buildings and the necessity that buildings and their space must comply with human needs and be in harmony with nature; - has knowledge of processes taking place in modern architecture and urban civil construction; - has skills in design work that, taking into account consumer’s needs and requirements, ensure sustainable and efficient use of resources within the building regulations and quality requirements; - is able to analyse and sense the collective planning and design process as a whole and participates in it, thereby ensuring a quality solution; - has the communication skills required for work as well as information and communication technology; - is able to explain issues related to the speciality, both orally and in writing in his/her mother tongue and in at least one foreign language, and participate in a professional debate; - is ready to actively participate in a civil society and has a tolerant attitude towards the diversity of views and values; - is able, taking into account social and esthetical aspects, to assess the role of professional activities and its consequences on society; - is independently capable of developing himself or herself professionally and vocationally.
