Curriculum: Business Administration 2020/2021



Module Description
General Study Objectives:
To create prerequisites for specialty studies and support student’s development in the learning environment teaching them to utilise the techniques of self-direction.
To support the development of professional communication and cooperation skills, and utilization of ICT.


Learning outcomes:
The student
• • manages the learning environment, understands the structure of the curriculum and study arrangements, and is able to find and use necessary information to pass the studies utilising self-directed techniques;
• utilises job related legislative acts and work environment requirements,
• has high level knowledge of the official language both orally and in written form, and is able to utilise the knowledge and skills in oral and written communication;
• utilises necessary professional digital competences at a required level;
• is able to express themselves clearly, compose written summaries, present them orally, answer the questions and give arguments in one foreign language;
• follows the basic rules of documenting the written papers and follows academic regulations in writing student assignments.
Core Study Objectives:
To create prerequisites for acquiring the business administration specialty.
Basic Subjects. Economic Environment Objectives:
To develop understanding about the processes in economy and ability to associate them with business, and enable students manage legislative regulations.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• has an overview of the economic environment and the development of economic thought;
• has profound knowledge of economic methods and theories, and is able to utilise them to understand the economic processes in society at personal, institutional and government level;
• is able to relate business legislation and its requirements with business cases, and applies them in solving the cases;
• uses appropriate mathematical statistics and data analysis methods for solving specialty tasks, and is able to interpret the results critically and creatively;
• knows business environment, forms of entrepreneurship and the principles of choice.
Basic Subjects. Management Objectives:
To create opportunities to manage the roles of a leader and a member in an organisation.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• has a systematic overview of classical theoretical bases and current trends of an organisation and management, explains and analyses the main organisational theories and models;
• defines problematic situations in the field, analyses them and suggests possible, including innovative solutions based on basic management decisions and methods;
• explains business problems in one foreign language orally and in written form, and participates in professional discussions;
• knows production management methods and different production types;
• is able to relate quality assurance with organisational management;
• leads team work and manages projects using analytical skills, and is responsible for carrying out work tasks;
• differentiates strategic business management concepts and business models and is able to utilise them in working out and applying corporate strategies following business ethics.
Basic Subjects. Entrepreneurship Objectives:
To create prerequisites for entrepreneurship management.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• has an overview of Estonian entrepreneurial environment, explains the main entrepreneurship problems and their causes;
• plans marketing of an organisation, analyses the effect of marketing on a business and designs a business plan;
• is able to manage a business entity’s distribution chain;
• knows the principles of choice and application of business software.
Basic Subjects. Financial accounting Objectives:
To provide knowledge and skills in corporate finances, financial services, financial accounting and taxation in order to make financial decisions.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• has knowledge of the accounting principles, theoretical principles and accounting methods, and utilises them in economic transactions and in reporting;
• analyses and evaluates the compliance of accounting with the current legislation, and forecasts possible consequences taking the responsibility for the decisions in different work situations;
• knows the basics of corporate taxation, accounts for taxes and payments, and solves tax problems;
• understands the basics of corporate finances, capital and involvement in corporate management, and chooses appropriate financial service.
Specialty Subjects Objectives:
To create prerequisites for acquiring the financial/human resources management profession.
Specialty Subjects. Financial Management Objectives:
To develop skills of planning and analysing economic and financial activities in companies of different sizes using appropriate information sources and methods and defining independently financial management decisions.

Learning outcomes:
The student:
• has an overview of the system of financial planning and budgeting in a company, evaluates the necessity of investment and its profitability;
• analyses and evaluates corporate financial activities of companies of different sizes, including reporting, using appropriate information sources, methods and techniques;
• has profound knowledge of corporate cost and management accounting, and prepares necessary information to make management decisions, and justifies the management decisions;
• understands different aspects and methods of financial management, and is able to utilise them in practice.
Specialty Subjects. Human Resources Management Objectives:
To develop profound knowledge and skills for human resources management.

Learning outcomes:
The student:
• utilises the techniques of work analysis and job evaluation to design a motivation system based on business strategy;
• analyses and solves work related problems and wage arrangement using work related legislation;
• utilises the principles and methods of personnel planning, creation, development and assessment;
• understands the role and specifications of human resources in reaching the objectives of a business, including in unexpected situations;
• is tolerant towards different attitudes and values in a multicultural organisation.
Specialty Subjects. Research Paper Objectives:
To provide students with opportunities to utilise the knowledge and skills acquired in preparing the research paper.

Learning outcomes:
The student:
• follows the principles of documentation of written assignments and research papers;
• choses the research topic, defines the research problem, research objective and tasks or questions, and develops logical structure for the research paper;
• compares main research strategies, and data collection and analysis methods;
• describes the choice of sample and uses it in planning the research;
• presents appropriate theoretical basis and methods for dealing with the research topic and carrying out the empirical research.
Optional Subjects Objectives:
To create prerequisites for utilisation of knowledge and skills gained in optional courses.

Learning outcomes:
The student

• evaluates the importance of the particular topic in the context of economy, society and entrepreneurship, and utilises gained knowledge in professional work.
Practical Training Objective:
To enable students utilise their theoretical knowledge in work situations, and develop professional skills and personality traits necessary for professional work.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• analyses business environment, macro and micro environment;
• analyses the activities in corporate marketing and its management, lists the marketing mix and explains the application in reaching the corporate objectives;
• analyses the structure, culture and other management activities of a particular company and carries out a motivation and work satisfaction research among the employees;
• analyses different strategies and their possible use in an organisation, taking responsibility for the decision making;
• analyses and presents the development of their knowledge, skills, values and ratings trough practical experience.
Graduation Thesis Objective:
To enable students utilise their knowledge and skills in preparing their graduation thesis, carrying out the analysis and presenting the results.

Learning outcomes:
The student
• develops, supplements, systemises and deepens professional theoretical knowledge and skills in the research field;
• is able to independently collect information in a foreign language and interpret it critically and creatively using appropriate methods and tools;
• carries out an empirical research using appropriate research methods, and analytical and generalisation skills;
• interprets research results and presents them academically.
