Curriculum: Road Construction 2015/2016



Module Description
Humanities 12 ECTS credits

Objective:
Provide knowledge and develop skills for independent and teamwork in research, development and creative work. Develop competences in languages and social sciences needed for the professional life.

Learning outcomes:
The student
- assesses the importance of professional activities from an ethical aspect, the results of it and the possible effects of it on the society;
- has the necessary communication and teamwork skills and is able to use the needed communication tools;
- understands information about the profession, that is in a foreign language;
- is able to explain subjects related to the profession both in writing and orally.
Mathematics, Sciences and Graphics 33 ECTS credits

Objective:
Establish the fundamentals and give basic knowledge of engineering subjects.

Learning outcomes:
The student
- has acquired the basic knowledge in sciences, that is the foundation of an engineers’ training;
- has acquired the basic knowledge that is needed to continue studies in the Master’s Degree.
Basic Subjects 27 ECTS credits

Objective:
create a basis and prerequisites to acquire the chosen specialty.

Learning outcomes:
the student
- knows the fundamentals of road construction field;
- knows survey of occupational safety and health fundamentals;
- is familiar with the basics of environmental problems and its sustainable decisions requirements;
- is familiar with mechanics basis and can it use professionally;
- knows economics basis;
- acquired knowledges for using of most distributed drawing software.
Specialty Subjects 87 ECTS credits

Objective:
to acquire speciality field and works of the facilities knowledge.

Learning outcomes:
the student
- knows the modern basics of research and development of road constructions and materials;
- can solve main Road Construction Geodesy Tasks and use different geodesy tools;
- knows road and road construction (incl. service media, bridges) functioning and stabilisation principles, is able to plan the design of road facilities, determine the limiting state of the constructions of the facilities and substructures;
- is able to use professional design software;
- knows and can use professionally needed regulations, standards and technical normative;
- knows basic foundations of machinery work, construction machinery park options and can forecast a high-performance of machinery park;
- can construct the foundations of road construction technology, knows road maintenance aspects, road construction, can evaluate quality of the works;
- knows economy activity basis, regulations, construction management basis and can engage them;
- is familiar with the economy legislations and can make a road construction calculations with time calculations;
- knows the principles of work safety on a specific enterprising level (also traffic control), has developed an attitude to implementing means of environmental impacts;
- has an overview of necessary professional knowledge and practices to manage at the company and working environment.
Optional Subjects 21 ECTS credits

Objective:
to acquire the necessary knowledge of technologies of road constructions and work assessment.

Learning outcomes:
the student
- is able to analyse additional knowledge and necessary practice at work assessment and can introduce all of them;
- is gained necessary general knowledges and skills for the labour market;
- can make selections for job or study specializing.
Practical Training 42 ECTS credits.

Objective:
helps to introduce and control acquired knowledge and practical skills at working environment.

Learning outcomes:
the student
- has gained knowledge of the company labour culture, working traditions and behaves accordingly to this;
- can evaluate employees’ operations at the company, can plan, manage and develop activities in changing conditions;
- can make a professional decisions and is capable of solving any work related problems; behaves innovatively and creatively;
- is able to guide and supervise co-workers.
Graduation Thesis 18 ECTS credits

Objective:
to utilize the gained specific knowledge and apply it in solving theoretical and practical problems in road construction.

Learning outcomes:
the student
- can estimate one’s own professional skills and expertise diversely and systematically, and define the personal need for development;
- is able to plan, organize and develop one’s actions and takes responsibility for this;
- makes innovative and environmentally respectful professional decisions and finds optimal solutions to problems;
- can make a constructive collaboration.
