Curriculum: Applied Architecture 2014/2015



Module Description
Humanities 14 ECTS credits, 11 ECTS credits compulsory courses, 3 ECTS credits optional courses.

Objective:
to introduce opinions and attitudes of science and politics in the field of the specialty and enable to acquire a special foreign language.

Learning outcomes:
student
- possesses the communication and teamwork skills and communication technologies;
- is able to understand the information about speialty in foreign language;
- can use the oral and written language in solving specialty-related problems and situations;
- is able to take part in professional conversations.
Mathematics, Sciences and Engineering Subjects 45 ECTS credits, 45 ECTS credits compulsory courses.

Objective:
to provide students sufficient knowledge of sciences related to architecture, construction sciences, techniques and technologies.

Learning outcomes:
student
- understands designing of structures, construction and engineering issues related to the design project of a building;
- has knowledge of physics and technological functions, building structures, local building materials;
- knows how to use scientific engineering knowledge for compiling architectural design projects, is capable of cooperation with a civil engineer.
Economics and Legal Subjects 6 ECTS credits, 6 ECTS credits compulsory courses.

Objective:
to provide students the knowledge of economic and legal acts regulating the design of buildings and the skills to apply them in enterprises.

Learning outcomes:
student
- understands different surveys (cost-effectiveness, social studies etc) and other preparations required for design work;
- has knowledge of the pricing basics in construction and planning;
- knows the legal acts regulating design processes.
Speciality Art Subjects 21 ECTS credits, 19 ECTS credits compulsory courses, 2 ECTS credits optional courses.

Objective:
to create an essential base for architectural design process of expressing an architectural idea in freehand.

Learning outcomes:
student
- has knowledge about fine arts as factors influencing the quality of architectural design;
- is able to express an architectural idea in freehand.
Speciality Theoretical Subjects 22 ECTS credits, 20 ECTS credits compulsory courses, 2 ECTS credits optional courses.

Objective:
to create a broad base of relations between architectural styles and their development, historical development of construction engineering, the history of town development and history of theory of architecture.

Learning outcomes:
student
- knows the history and theory of architecture and of the related arts, technologies and humanities;
- understands the development of art culture and the processes taking place in modern architecture and town construction;
- understands the social role of the profession and ethics of architect.
Speciality Practical Subjects 67 ECTS credits, 67 ECTS compulsory courses.

Objective:
to provide the students special knowledge and skills for architectural design and planning.

Learning outcomes:
student
- knows how to create architectural objects according to aesthetic and technical requirements;
- has the necessary knowledge of urban design and planning and essential skills for planning process;
- understands the social role of the profession and ethics of architect;
- has a command of computer applications required in professional work;
- is able to find a solution, depending on the location, to an architectural task;
- is able to analyse given tasks and create an aesthetic and functional spacial entity.
Working Life 14 ECTS credits, 7 ECTS credits compulsory courses, 7 ECTS credits optional courses.

Objective:
to provide the knowledge of understanding the functioning of an organisation and the knowledge, skills and attitudes to support the coping in it.

Learning outcomes:
student
- has necessary knowledge and skills to cope in labour market;
- orientates in labour legislation;
- can work as a member of collective;
- is responsible for his/her activity and acts proceeding from the agreed practices;
- commands the communication skills, information and communication technologies necessary for work life.
Practical Training 36 ECTS credits.

Objective:
to provide the working environment where to apply and check the acquired knowledge and skills.

Learning outcomes:
student
- knows working culture, traditions of working life and is able to behave in collective;
- can assess the activity of working collective; plan, organise and develop this activity in a changing working situation;
- understands the prospective profession, the place of a designer and planner in the society, can make professional decisions and solve the problems arisen in work;
- understands the relationship between people and buildings, and the necessity to comply buildings and the space between them according to human needs and dimensions.
Graduation Thesis 15 ECTS credits.

Objective:
to provide applying the acquired knowledge and skills in solving theoretical and practical professional problem.

Learning outcomes:
student
- has a systematic overview of the speciality and has obtained the necessary theoretical and practical skills for the professional work of architect;
- can evaluate systematically and in every respect his/her professional skills, competence and specify his/her needs for improvement;
- can give directions and guidance to his/her workmates.
