AimThe aim of the applied higher education curriculum of Facilities Management is to prepare specialists (EQA, level 6) of facilities management in accordance with the expected competence by the labour market. The specialists perform work tasks, which require analytical skills and decision making skills in changing situations, have the knowledge and skills of the specialty, organise the distribution of resources and the employees’ work, and are able to take responsibility for their performance.
The acquisition of the knowledge and skills of facilities management takes place in the form of passing theoretical subjects and practical trainings set by the curriculum, and completing the apprenticeship. In addition to that, the curriculum aims at developing the student’s general knowledge and social competence; ensuring the proficiency of a foreign language at a level and capacity that would enable specialist work and self-development; provide general knowledge of the bases of mathematics and natural sciences, general technical sciences and graphics related to the field of construction. The graduate of Facilities Management can work as a specialist of facilities management or administration and continue studies on Master’s level. Learning outcomesA student who has fully passed the curriculum has the following competence:
- has a systematic overview of the most prevalent means and possibilities of practising facilities management, and knows the fundamental principles of the administration and maintenance of buildings; - is able to compile simpler budgets, calculations, management strategies, action plans and contracts of facilities, and evaluate their legal and economical content; - has acquired theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills of planning, construction, management and development of buildings, facilities and technical systems; - knows building materials, technologies of construction processes, requirements for acceptance of work, and is able to assess the quality of works; - knows and follows the legislation, standards and technical regulations that apply to the specialty; - knows the bases of economics and business and is able to implement these in the specialty; - is able to implement the acquired knowledge at work, and develop oneself continuously in the specialty; - is guided in the activities by professional ethics and is able to consider social, economic, environmentally friendly and ethical aspects; - is able to use professional language to express oneself orally and in writing in one’s native and at least one foreign language; - has the communication and leadership skills necessary for the specialty and is able to work in a multidisciplinary project teams.
