General description
Physics of welding. Welding processes. Weldability of metals. Kinds of welded joints. Types of weld and welding symbols. Procedure of arc welding. Power sources for arc welding and welding equipment. Arc-welding consumables. Electric resistance welding. Shielded-arc welding. Welding steels, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Surfacing and hard facing. Repair welding. Torch welding and flame cutting. Plasma-arc, electron-beam, ultrasonic, diffusion and friction welding. Spray-transfer coating. Welding imperfections and quality control. Welder's working place, ventilation and labour protection.
General aim
The aim of the course is to widen the knowledge about welding different materials, the basics of welding production, quality system, the strength of welded joints, economical calculations of welded joints, welding devices and conductors.

Evaluation methods
The course is evaluated based on the written and oral reports.

Grading system:
0-50% grade 0 "fail"
51-60% grade 1 "sufficient"
61-70% grade 2 "satisfactory"
71-80% grade 3 "good"
81-90% grade 4 "very good"
91-100% grade 5 "excellent"

The substance is a specialty subject, the exam must be completed at least grade "2".
