| General description |
| Sensors and sensing systems used in automatics and their nature, operation and build principles, elements. Sensors used in industrial, home, and mobile automatics: force and tactile sensors, optical, distance, object detection sensors, encoders. Sensor systems’ signal processing, filtration, AD/DA conversion, interfacing. “Noise” signals and how to avoid them when transmitting sensor signals. Interfacing sensors with micro- and industrial controllers, industrial robots. |
|
| General aim |
| To give an overview of sensors used in industry, home, and microprocessor automatics. To provoke an understanding of how to use sensors. To provide basic knowledge in robotics. Automatics, and on sensory systems used for interfacing in feedback loop schematics and how to process those signals. To cover the operation principles of sensors made for sensing different physical values, to provide a short overview of different sensors’ implementation limits and characteristics derived from their work principles. |
|
| Aim |
The student:
Knows the main sensor systems used in today’s robotics and automatics
Can choose sensor systems to suit their goal
Knows the basic types of signal noise and ways to combat it
Understands problems related to transmitting signals
Can interface sensors into an automatics system
Knows the peculiarities of using sensors
Knows the build of sensors |
|
| Form description |
| Lectures, individual work, laboratory work, final test. |
|
| Evaluation methods |
| The course will end with a written final. To attend the final, the student must have their laboratory work evaluated as “passed”. |
